Getting Involved In Our Parish
Did you ever ask yourself about getting involved in the parish activities and ministries, but didn’t know how or which one? There are so many opportunities to get involved in the Church. Liturgically, we are always asking for Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers. We need musicians: organists, pianists, cantors, singers for two choirs and other musical instruments. Children’s Blessing
Next weekend is the Feast of the Holy Family. At all the Masses, we will impart on our children, a special blessing, praying for their safety and good health. Bring them to Mass and when it is time to get the blessing, have them stand proud as they are the future of our Church. God Bless Them!
Christmas Giving Tree
CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE is out this weekend. It’s been a tough year for families with children and they could use a little pick me up around Christmas. The Giving Tree lists children that could use your help. Some angel tags have wishes for gifts, but it’s your choice of something to get for a young person. Bus Trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse
St. Matthew’s 50+ Club is sponsoring a Bus Trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse to see the Christmas show on Thursday, December 11th. The cost is $120 which includes transportation, lunch and show. For more information or to reserve your seat, call Judy at 570-872-6623.
Thanksgiving Food Baskets
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. At this time, our Social Concerns Committee gives out baskets of food to needy families in our parish and community. If you know of a family that could use a little help, especially during the holidays, please call Father Rich. All names are kept confidential. Traditional Choir
Our choir is looking for some new members. They meet and rehearse on Wednesday evenings and sing twice a month at weekend masses. They are now practicing for Christmas. If you’re interested, stop in the Church this Wednesday and see what works. Don’t be shy or afraid. Come sing for the Lord and at the same time enhance our celebrations.
Church Refurbishing Project Complete
Update: October 26th Our church refurbishing project is complete. Working with Bahret Church Interiors from Harrisburg, they subcontracted all the other teams. The project included the repainting of the Church and Chapel , new rugs in the Church, Chapel, Upper Meeting room and offices, replacing kneeler padding with a vinyl covering and re-upholstering the pews and chairs as well as refinishing the pew caps. MSGR. McHugh Endowment Scholarships
Students from Kindergarten through twelfth grades and are attending a Catholic School in the Diocese of Scranton are eligible to apply for and receive one of these scholarships. These scholarship range from $500.00 to $1,500.00. They are not based on financial need but the overall character and good standing of the student. Applications are available in the office and need to be returned by October 24th.
Senior Lunch Program On Hold
These senior Lunches, I hope, are a help to our Seniors in the parish. However, we have to put them on hold for right now. Due to the Church renovations, we’re not sure about using the Hall for Masses, which would make it difficult to do the lunches. Also, we need some people who are willing to cook these lunches. We average between 25-40 lunches each week. We have help to package and serve the meals. We need the cooks…
New Altar Servers
We are looking for some dedicated youngsters, from grades three through twelve, who are interested in serving as altar servers to assist the priest at Mass. It would be great to see more of our children involved with Mass and the Church. Sign up today at the Information Booth. Practice sessions will be held in September.
Best Wishes Deacon & Mrs. Miller
We wish to say good-bye and good luck as he & Karen move back to Texas this week. They have decided to move to be closer to family, their children live in Texas. We thank Deacon Steve for his ministry here at the parish, ministering at Mass, preaching, hospital work, lend-a-hand program and Karen in the contemporary choir and the Guild. We wish them well as they continue doing their ministries in Texas. God Bless You both!
CCD classes will begin in September
It may seem early, but we have already started working on next year’s schedule, class numbers and getting ready to order materials. Make sure your children are registered for CCD as classes will begin in September. We are taking registration for all public school children, plus Catholic School children for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Also registration is open for Kindergarten
