On January 20, 1961, John F. Kennedy in his inaugural address said: “…ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” I thought of those words when I read today’s Gospel because we do a lot of asking God for things, but we don’t always ask what we can do for God. When we pray, we always remember our needs and ask God’s help. That could be health issues, financial troubles, relationship…
At the end of today’s Gospel, we hear of the man not wearing the proper wedding garment to the feast. He was thrown out. We have been invited to the great feast of heaven. But we must ask ourselves if we are wearing our wedding garment! Our wedding garment is the holiness and righteousness of God, that is, being in the state of grace. We received our wedding garment at Baptism, while the other Sacraments provide the additional graces we…
Today we gather on this Respect Life Sunday to reflect upon one of the most foundational themes of our faith: the dignity of human life. Every human being, created in the image and likeness of God, bears a dignity that is inherent and sacred. It does not depend on what someone can accomplish, how attractive they are, how much wealth they possess, their age, their health, or their usefulness to society. It flows simply from the reality that they are…
You have heard the quote attributed to St. Augustine: “When you sing, you pray twice.” With that thought and the looming retirements and schedule changes, we are looking for help with our Music Ministry. Are you or do you know someone who is an organist or a pianist that might be willing to play at our Masses. Music brings people’s voice together and enhances our celebrations. Come share your talent with your faith community. If you might be interested or…
Together, we join with all parishes throughout the Diocese of Scranton to invest in our ministries! We have presently received donations and pledges from 65 donors totaling $28,220 or 49.6% of our goal. Prayerfully consider making a pledge or donation to this year’s Appeal. It supports so many great things in our diocese and parishes, such as Catholic Education of our youth, soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters, seminarian and retired priest support as well as the media to…
I hope you notice how the Church is always neat, tidy, and clean when you come to Mass on weekends. That is thanks to the dedicated volunteers that come on Monday mornings to clean. We’re looking for some extra helpers in this task. It’s about an hour of time on Monday mornings. If we had a few more helpers, it would be even quicker. Call the Church if you can help or just come this Monday morning.
Thank you for your many donations to the food pantry. Many people have benefitted from your generosity. As we prepare to give out food baskets to needing parishioners and others, we are in need of some items. We could use: stuffing, cake mixes & icing, pancake mix and syrup, hamburger helper, biscuit mix and jars of jelly. Thank you.
