“Who do you say I am?” Jesus asked his disciples in today’s Gospel. How would you respond to that question if it was asked of you? Would you answer with the words of others like something you read, or maybe what the media publishes, or would you speak from your heart? The catechism answer is Jesus is the incarnate Son of God, second person of the Holy Trinity, our savior and Messiah. But when I think of Jesus, I say He is the strength I need when I faced dire situations. He is the wisdom inside of me when I counsel individuals or deliver a sermon. He is the courage I need when faced with frustration, inadequacy, or just wanting to give up. He is the God who loves me and died on the cross for me. He is my Savior who answers my prayers and knows what’s best for me. I could go on and on.
Jesus called Peter the rock on whom the Church is built. Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus where you, too, are a rock of faith, that you and others can rely on.
