Many people call or come to the office seeking a sponsor card from the Church. Sponsors, a Godparent for Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation, by Church law, are to be in good standing in the Church. That means they are registered in a parish, practicing their faith by weekly attendance at Mass and, if married, to have been married in the Church and themselves already confirmed. Such qualities provide a good and objective framework for fulfilling the role of a Catholic Sponsor whose first duty is to assure the Catholic formation and education of the child.
