Feast of the Epiphany

Feast of the Epiphany

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, the manifestation of Jesus to the world as witnessed by the Magi following the star to where Jesus was born and then presenting their gifts of gold, frankincense and
myrrh to him.

I often wonder what kind of gifts could we bring to Jesus? Maybe we can give the gift of friendship with God which we offer through wholehearted love and devotion. A second gift can be friendship with others. This may make us vulnerable in our openness to others but the blessings we can receive will be invaluable. Then we can offer the gift of reconciliation. This requires of us humility, understanding, patience and forgiveness. But it heals us. And finally maybe a gift of peace. We can experience this through prayer, worship and the sharing of our time and talents. We have much to give Jesus. Have we given our gifts to him?
