Jesus says in today’s Gospel,”Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” These words of Jesus tell us to trust in Him and He will carry the load, He will ease our burdens. But sometimes we take these words of Jesus and now say that we are entitled to everything and should not be denied anything. It is God’s duty to provide for us. So
wrong!!
It is Independence Day Weekend and we celebrate our freedom as a nation. Sometimes we think that this freedom means, give me what I want, when I want, and no questions. That’s not freedom. That’s greed. Our freedom is our ability and right to live peacefully together. Our nationality, our race, our financial status, or our name should not matter.
We are all children of our heavenly Father and treat each other as such. As Jesus said, “…although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the little ones.” Let us live as God’s little ones: caring and providing for one another; being patient and forgiving; sacrificing for others; doing as we would want done to oneself. This is freedom. This is how the Lord carries the load – through our love for one another. Happy Independence day!
