This is Memorial Day weekend. Many are off work on Memorial Day. Summer plans start in motion. We remember those veterans that sacrificed their lives for our freedom. It’s a big deal and everyone celebrates it. But what is a bigger deal is to remember who sacrificed His life for us that went beyond our freedom. That is Jesus Christ! He sacrificed His life on the cross to keep us free from eternal damnation. He brought us forgiveness of our sins. He sacrificed His life, accepting ridicule and abuse, for teaching what it means to love one another and forgive the faults of others. With that, He brought us true peace – not just simply an absence of war or taking down an abusive government. Jesus brought us true peace. Then why don’t we celebrate it more?
Every Sunday (weekend) is Mass. It is a memorial of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We celebrate Christ’s love for us. We are even fed with the Eucharist, the Body & Blood of Jesus. We are given the food of life and we become a part of Jesus. Instead of just inviting people to a Memorial Day picnic, invite family, friends and neighbors to a celebration of the Eucharist – a Sunday Mass. They will leave with more than leftovers. They will leave with Jesus in them.
