When reading today’s Gospel, the words that caught my eye were Jesus saying “Come have breakfast.” You guessed it – – about food. But it wasn’t really about food, what or how much to eat. It was a way that Jesus is saying to His Apostles that all is forgiven. They left Him when He needed them most. They abandoned him to the cross. But inviting them to sit and eat was His way of saying I forgive you. We don’t always need to say the word, forgive, though it goes a long way. Sometimes a simple invite to a meal, or an asking to help do something and other ways, gets out the message that all is okay. Forgiveness is shared and peace reigns. We always seem to have food at our gatherings at Church. No, it’s not because I’m always hungry. It is because so many good things are done at a meal. Maybe it’s making a new friend or just getting to know people. It could be forgiveness, like today’s Gospel. It could just be a way to make people feel comfortable in a new environment or setting. Share a meal, or a piece of cake, or a simple cup of coffee. See where the conversation goes. It could be a whole new experience in your life.
