Today is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week, a week reminding us of the great sacrifice of Jesus for us. But what does this week mean to you? Today, Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem with the waving of palms. What have we done to welcome Jesus into our lives? Hopefully not simply palms but more like prayer.
On Holy Thursday, we relive the Last Supper when Jesus gave us the Eucharist: “This is my Body …” Is the Mass a priority for you like that Last Supper was for the Apostles? Or do we use any excuse not to go?
On Good Friday we vividly remember the sufferings and passion of Christ. Do you realize that Jesus suffered all that for all of us to give us forgiveness of our sins. Have we gone to confession to feel that peace?
Holy Saturday gives us a history of our faith through the Old Testament Scriptures. Then we are sprinkled with the Holy Water to refresh our faith. Have we taken stock of our beliefs, through Scripture, catechism, or different religious readings and then put them into practice? In other words, not just say I believe, but let our actions speak for themselves.
Easter then brings about Resurrection. That is what we seek at the end of our lives on this earth. Let Holy Week not be a course in church history, but let it be the living out of our faith in the way Jesus taught and the way He lived.
