What does it mean to trust in God?

What does it mean to trust in God? It shouldn’t be a sentimental feeling or emotion. It shouldn’t be a gamble when we have a great need. Because if it doesn’t work out, we blame God as being untrustworthy.

An old Arab proverb said: trust in God but tie down your camel, Trusting in God does not mean taking foolish chances. Jesus advised his disciples you must be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. He also said, if you build your house on sand, don’t be surprised when it washes away. What Jesus meant about trusting in God is evident in the Beatitudes. Those who trust in God live out the conviction that being poor, needy, sad or despised now is the smallest and least important part of the story. The Lord will get us through these times and we receive His reward in the end: eternal life. Of course, the reverse is necessarily true also. Those who are comfortable, content, and well received now and feel they have no need for God, will be disappointed in the end. The physical rewards of this world will disappear and there will be nothing to rely on.

Remember Blessed are those who believe in God. Woe to those who don’t!
