The Sight Of Faith

The Sight Of Faith

When my Mom was alive, she had cataract surgery. When it was over and she healed, she got a bit depressed. When I ask her why she felt that way, she said that now she could see the dirt around the house she couldn’t see before. And she had to do some more cleaning.

Bartimaeus in today’ Gospel said to Jesus that he wanted to see. He was blind and just wanted to see the world. When Jesus gave him his sight, what did he see? Did he only see the beauty of the world and the sun shining? Or did he also see the hungry and the poor, the suffering and the downtrodden?

We can see. Maybe with the help of glasses or contacts and maybe not as well as we could before. What do we see? Do we see only the beauty of the world? Or do we see the ‘dirt’ and now need to do something about it. Jesus gave us more than eyesight. He gave us the sight of faith! It is this sight that gives us the direction of where Jesus wants us to go. It is through the eyes of faith that we can see those Jesus sends to us for help, encouragement and support. Let us not shut our eyes to the path the Lord has laid our before us.
