As you listen to today’s Gospel, we see that Jesus knew that the only way to experience joy is with a childlike attitude, which is why He used children as examples. Children normally are not stuck with many of the attitudes and perceptions that handicap us as adults. We need to stop looking outside of ourselves for fulfillment and examine our attitudes. Consider how many childlike qualities you have maintained from your youth. Are any remaining? Picture yourself as the child you once were and try to discover what characteristics made your life most satisfying and enjoyable. What were your dreams? What could excite your enthusiasm? What activities brought you most delight? These are the graces of a more satisfying life. If you could re-activate some of those childlike qualities and appreciations you once had, you will find substantial increase in peace and contentment. In today’s reading James warns: “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly.” Take the time to see more of life from a child’s perspective and you will receive all you need.
