When you read today’s Gospel, you hear Jesus reminding us that those desires in our hearts are a reflection of our everyday action, words and decisions. But what motivates those desires of our hearts? For some it is greed, jealousy, arrogance, deceit and folly. These desires cause us to take advantage of others rather than be generous; they cause us to lie so as not to have to help another; they cause us to lose friendship rather than be welcoming to others. But if the desires of our hearts are focused on the love of Jesus, His mercy and forgiveness, and His willingness to sacrifice. Then our actions turn to offering a helping hand to anyone in need. They lead us to be patient with others and be merciful. They show how to turn the other cheek and be forgiving. When all is said and done, turning in on ourselves leads to a life that is frustrating, lonely and sometimes miserable. But leading our lives allowing the Lord to be the desire of our hearts, brings happiness, contentment and peace. What life do you choose?
