Today, twenty two of our young parishioners are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. It’s a great experience for them as they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and now the Church sees them as adult members. They have received the religious education to make decisions of faith. So have we all. But we also know, that the world is constantly changing. New temptations face us each day trying to draw us away from our faith and the Church. So we need to persevere and teach our young, impressionable students the same. Prayer keeps us in touch with the Lord. The Mass gives us the nourishment we need to continue on living our faith. The community with which we gather – the Church — gives us the support and encouragement we need to remain strong in faith. As these children receive the seal of the Holy Spirit and its gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord, we need to continue to pray for their futures. Pray that they be open to the Spirit to do good. Pray that they continue to practice their faith, in Church and in the community. Pray that they be willing to let the Lord work His miracles through them.
“Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love”
