In today’s Gospel, Jesus came upon two disciples on the road to Emmaus and began to speak with them. They were grieving over the death of Jesus. And Jesus was helping them to see and understand all He taught them and lift their spirits.

What would you talk about if Jesus came upon you during the day, whether at work, home, school and just out for a leisurely walk? Would you share what is bothering you? Would you complain to him about the world or your own personal difficulties? Would you be praising him? Or would you just say and Our Father because you don’t know what to say? I think Jesus would be easy to talk to. And if we were tongue tied, He would make us feel good and peaceful like the disciples on the road. Maybe that’s what our prayer should be: talking with Jesus. Yes, we can complain to Him, unload our problems on Him, even get a little angry. But in prayer He will calm us down and make us feel good. But remember in the midst of our talking, we need to stop and listen. Otherwise how would we know what to do. The disciples recognized Jesus when they broke bread together. Feel Jesus’ presence in your personal prayers and especially at Mass when we gather as a community of faith in prayer.
